CCPA MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Affiliations When you become a member of the CCPA, you automatically become a member of the National Federation of Paralegal Associations Inc.  Founded in 1974, NFPA was the first national paralegal association and created as a non-profit federation. NFPA is an issues-driven, policy-oriented professional association directed by its membership. It is comprised of almost 40 member associations and represents over 4,000 individual members reflecting a broad range of experience, education, and diversity. NFPA promotes a global presence for the paralegal profession and leadership in the legal community. It prides itself on the professionalism of its members and routinely monitors legislation, case law, proposed changes to the Rules of Professional Responsibility and ethics opinions that affect the paralegal profession.

Membership Profiles While serving as a gateway to the paralegal profession – with helpful information for the public and practicing paralegals alike – the websites of CCPA and NFPA also provide members with password-protected access to a wide variety of member-only useful resources.

Monthly Membership Programs – CCPA hosts monthly lunch programs virtually or hybrid style featuring a variety of speakers and topics. Most programs are approved for continuing legal education credits. These programs provide members with a chance to network with other paralegals as well as the opportunity to learn more about a wide variety of topics affecting the law. Non-members are welcome, but members enjoy discount pricing. Have an interesting topic or speaker? Feel free to let us know what you want to learn more about!

ParaPhrase – Published electronically on a bi-monthly basis, CCPA’s official newsletter contains news and announcements of interest, job postings, current developments in the law, and information about CCPA’s monthly membership programs along with other educational and professional development opportunities. Everyone is encouraged to contribute articles or ideas.

National Paralegal Reporter – CCPA members receive NFPA’s quarterly magazine which contains articles about trends and developments affecting the paralegal profession nationwide.

Job Bank – CCPA helps its members progress their careers by providing access to paralegal job opportunities that are available throughout the state through its newsletter, website and via direct e-mail alerts.

PACE and PCCE – CCPA provides the opportunity for members to learn about and prepare for the Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam (PACE) and Paralegal CORE Competency Exam (PCCE). These exams are offered by NFPA through Prometric testing centers. Members can be connected with our Paralegal Certification Committee for information and to form study groups.

Job Shadowing and Mentoring – CCPA will match a student member or paralegal new to the profession with an experienced paralegal who is willing to be a guide and resource. This mentor makes an affirmative effort to get the newcomer oriented. Job shadowing allows aspiring paralegals to experience real time on the job in areas of interest and mentoring is a rewarding way for paralegals to share their wealth of knowledge and professional insights. Volunteers influence not only a new paralegal’s career, but also the future of the profession.

Professional Development – There are many opportunities to get involved in CCPA and grow professionally. Whether you volunteer as a mentor, attend continuing legal education programs or serve on CCPA’s Board of Directors or an Ad Hoc or Standing Committee, CCPA provides its members with ample opportunity for networking, professional development and career advancement, which may in turn lead to involvement on a national level through Board and Committee opportunities with NFPA.

Discounts – Through NFPA, members have access to discounts on a wide variety of products and services, as well as access to continuing legal education and professional services.
